IMPORTANT INFORMATION FROM WAPOL ON THE CONDUCT OF AND ATTENDANCE AT FUNERALS
The current process we have adopted in partnership with local funeral directors, Newman Funerals, Pilbara Funerals and Gascoyne funerals for the Pilbara are:
- Local Police and the Pilbara District Police office will be advised of upcoming funerals by the funeral directors;
- Comprehensive liaison will be conducted by the funeral directors and local Police with family members to ensure there is only attendance by the maximum number of people;
- A prominent family member or community Elder produces a short video, requesting people not to attend and send a letter. The letters are delivered to the funeral director or Police and given to the family for reading at the funeral;
- If the family agree, the funeral is streamed live on Facebook, Facetime, etc.

Message from COVID-19 Remote Communities Response Team – |
Food security is one of the Western Australian Government’s highest priorities and we understand that many remote communities are anxious about their ongoing supply. The Government is working with suppliers, transport companies and stores to monitor stock levels and deliveries. We want to assure you that deliveries will continue – they are not impacted by travel restrictions. We can see there are some items that seem slow to be restocked and some that are becoming more expensive and we are working closely with suppliers on this. The Government is asking everyone to only buy the things you need. There is no need to panic and buy large quantities. We also know that some communities that have relied on regional centres for shopping and other services are now looking for different arrangements. Staff from the Department of Communities are working with the major supermarkets and suppliers to put in place new systems for delivery to remote communities. If you are having difficulty obtaining food or other essential items, please contact the Department of Communities representative who has been helping you with your Local Pandemic Action Plan. For more information, you can also call 13 COVID (13 268 43) or the Disaster Response Hotline 1800 032 965. |
